Perry Turner was born on March 8, 1935, in Dry Branch, Twiggs County, Georgia. He was the seventh of nine children to the late Ambrose and Lillie (Marcus) Turner, Sr. Perry relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1955. He was first employed by NECCO candy factory and later went on to work for Trim Alloy Aluminum Factory. Perry later earned his CDL license and was then employed by T Transportation, where he drove 18-wheelers for over 30 years and eventually retired. Even after retirement, he returned to work part-time as a box truck driver for Allied Auto Parts.
During his younger years, he enjoyed racing cars with his brother and friends and talking on his CB with his handle being One-eyed Jack! Perry loved family gatherings, dancing, occasional trips to the casino, watching Western movies, and was a die-hard REDSOX fan. He was known as the family historian, the “grill master,” and the lover of NEHI peach soda. Perry always had a joke, loved his family, and his smile will be missed by all.
Perry leaves to mourn, his children: Tashima Turner Price, Jason Turner, Mario Turner, Linda Woodard, Lawanda Black, Bruce Hubbard, and Clinnell Guilfield. Twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Alberta Hill; an aunt, Ruth Marcus, two sisters-in-law, Rose Sanders and Annie Bell Frazier, a brother-in-law, Johnnie Hubbard, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Perry helped to raise many children and had a special bond with his nephew and nieces, Darrell, Rossetta & Allyson Vinson.
Perry was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie M. Hubbard-Turner; daughter, JoAnne Martin; and siblings, Ambrose Turner, Jr., Mabel Howard, Richard Turner, Sr., Ruby Hammond, Sara A. Turner, Simon Turner, Sr., and Corine T. Vinson.
Visitation services for Perry Turner will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the George Lopes Funeral Home, 647 Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301 with a starting time of 10:00AM. Following the viewing will be the funeral service to begin at 11:00AM. Proceeding the funeral services will be interment to Oak Lawn Cemetery, 427 Cummins Hwy, Roslindale, MA.
