Maria Nela (Depina) Rodrigues

Maria Nela Barros de Pina Rodrigues of Boston, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, following a period of extended illness, at the age of 68.

Maria, affectionately known as “Nela”, was a sweet woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness and grace.

Nela was born on February 27,1956, in Praia, Cabo Verde to the late Hermongenes and Balbina de Pina. After exchanging vows on December 15, 1979, she ventured to the United States to be with her loving husband, João Rodrigues. João supported her through all the joy and adversities of life, a true husband in every sense.

Her ability to make people feel valued and cared for was truly remarkable. Nela was infamous for pulling you into a private conversation. Whether it was through a kind word, a comforting gesture, or a simple act of generosity, Nela had a way of empowering you to be brave and confident. She often testified about how her faith in God anchored her, providing her with strength, hope, and peace in times of uncertainty. With every challenge she faced, she found strength in prayer and found the courage to persevere, knowing that she was never alone.

Her legacy lives on through her family, who will forever hold her close to their hearts. João Rodrigues, her devoted husband, continues to honor her memory each day with fond memories of their 46 years together. Their children, Mauro and Solange, carry on her legacy by embodying the same compassion and strength that Nela exemplified throughout her life. The presence of Nela’s three beloved grandchildren, Luciano, Bryson, and Jaxon, serves as a reminder of the joy and love she brought into this world. Each smile and laughter shared among them echoes the beautiful memories that Nela created with her family.

In the hearts of her relatives and friends, Nela's presence will forever be felt. The memories shared, the laughter echoed, and the love bestowed will continue to serve as a testament to the extraordinary woman that Nela was. Though she may no longer be physically present, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Nela is preceded in death by her eldest sister, Maria Livramento de Pina. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband; João Rodrigues, children; Mauro Rodrigues, Solange Smith; son in-law, Nigel Smith, three grandchildren; Luciano Rodrigues, Bryson Smith and Jaxon Smith, her siblings; Maria Aline Rocha, Joana Mota, Maria Encarnacion, Mario de Pina, Adalberto de Pina, Rosalina Teixeira and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Maria Nela Barros de Pina Rodrigues, de Boston, Massachusetts, faleceu pacificamente em casa na terça-feira, 9 de Abril de 2024, após um período de doença prolongada, aos 68 anos.

Maria, carinhosamente conhecida por “Nela”, foi uma mulher doce que tocou a vida de muitas pessoas com sua bondade e graça.

Nela nasceu a 27 de Fevereiro de 1956, na Praia, Cabo Verde, filha dos falecidos Hermongenes e Balbina de Pina. Depois de trocar votos matrimoniais a 15 de Dezembro de 1979, ela emigrou para os Estados Unidos para ficar com seu amoroso marido, João Rodrigues. João a apoiou em todas as alegrias e adversidades da vida, um verdadeiro marido em todos os sentidos.

Sua capacidade de fazer as pessoas se sentirem valorizadas e cuidadas era verdadeiramente notável. Nela era famosa por convencer você para uma conversa particular. Seja por meio de uma palavra gentil, de um gesto reconfortante ou de um simples ato de generosidade, Nela tinha um jeito de capacitá-lo a ser corajoso e confiante. Ela frequentemente testificou sobre como sua fé em Deus a ancorou, proporcionando-lhe força, esperança e paz em tempos de incerteza. A cada desafio que enfrentava, ela encontrava forças na oração e coragem para perseverar, sabendo que nunca estava sozinha.

Seu legado vive através de sua família, que a manterá para sempre perto de seus corações. João Rodrigues, o seu dedicado marido, continua a honrar a sua memória todos os dias com boas recordações dos 46 anos que passaram juntos. Seus filhos, Mauro e Solange, dão continuidade ao seu legado ao incorporar a mesma compaixão e força que Nela exemplificou ao longo de sua vida. A presença dos três amados netos de Nela, Luciano, Bryson e Jaxon, serve como um lembrete da alegria e do amor que ela trouxe a este mundo. Cada sorriso e risada compartilhados entre eles ecoam as lindas lembranças que Nela criou com sua família.

No coração de seus familiares e amigos, a presença de Nela será sentida para sempre. As lembranças compartilhadas, as risadas ecoadas e o amor concedido continuarão a servir de testemunho da mulher extraordinária que Nela foi. Embora ela possa não estar mais presente fisicamente, seu espírito vive nos corações daqueles que tiveram a sorte de conhecê-la.

Nela deixa para trás para guardar sua memória, seu amoroso marido; João Rodrigues, filhos; Mauro Rodrigues, Solange Smith, genro, Nigel Smith,  três netos;  Luciano Rodrigues, Bryson Smith e Jaxon Smith, seus irmãos; Maria Livramento de Pina (já falecida), Maria Aline Rocha, Joana Mota, Maria Encarnacion, Mario de Pina, Adalberto de Pina, Rosalina Teixeira, e muitos outros parentes e amigos que sentirão muita falta dela.

Viewing services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 10:00AM-12:00PM located at Brockton Cape Verdean SDA Church, 155 West Elm Street, Brockton, MA 02301. The Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 12:00PM located at Brockton Cape Verdean SDA Church, 155 West Elm Street, Brockton, MA 02301. Proceeding the Funeral Service will be Interment at New Calvary Cemetery located at 800 Harvard Street, Mattapan, MA 02126.
