Anita St. Louis Obituary

After years of enduring health issues due to Dementia, Mary Anita St. Louis received her wings on the morning of March 25th, 2024; and is now with the Lord.

Anita was one of seven children born to Majorie Abraham.

Mom was born on October 10th, 1937; in Paraclete-St Andrew; Grenada.

Anita was 86 years young, the unsung hero in the community, who also gave open and honestly from her heart. She was the owner of Saint’s Diner in Codman Square where she unselfishly allowed no one to go hungry and was fondly referred to as “Ma” by all. In much the same way that she opened the doors of Saint’s Diner to the community, she also opened the doors of her home to anyone in need of a fresh start - inclusive of a meal, a warm bed, and a roof over their head.

Mom migrated from Grenada to Trinidad - where she married Linus St. Louis, and their first three children were born. From there they moved on to Canada, with a short stay in New York, before eventually settling in Boston, MA - where their last two children were born - all in the pursuit of creating a better life for her and her family.

Once settled in Boston, mom began her career in the kitchen at Boston University Hospital. Her relentless desire to support her family led her to taking on numerous jobs, which included housekeeping for several families. Her vast experience working in the kitchen at University Hospital, for 20 years, inspired her to pursue her entrepreneurial passion for cooking. This led to opening her own establishment, Saint’s Diner, in September of 1992. In addition to the full time demands of owning a business, she also prepared and sold her signature traditional Caribbean dishes, on the weekends, at Unity Sports and Cultural Club in Dorchester, MA.

Her dedication to the success of Saint’s Diner resulted in long days and short nights, but there was always time for Sunday dinner with family, friends, and a deck of cards.

Anita is predeceased by her parents Carlton & Marjorie Abraham, three sisters, one brother, and one granddaughter.

Left to cherish her memories are her children; Clement St. Louis, Peter St. Louis & his wife Sharon St. Louis, Yvette Minnifield, Wesley St. Louis & his wife Barbara St. Louis, Alicia St. Louis, her brother Alister Abraham, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.

Mom’s voice of reason and wisdom will be deeply missed. She was a pillar of love, hospitality, and giving. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience and strength. At the end of the day, her passion was about serving the community and helping people. Her smile and impact on those around her will be forever remembered and cherished.

May she sleep in eternal peace!
