Emma Kinney Obituary

       On June 3rd 2019 God’s angel descended to earth and escorted our beloved Emma Kinney or affectionately known Aunt Emma, home through heaven’s gates. Emma was born on March 12, 1921 to the late Joseph Hodges and Lottie Byrd (Deceased) in Hartsville South Carolina. She was educated in Winston- Salem North Carolina then later in life she moved to Boston Massachusetts where she met and married Frank Kinney. Emma loved to dress shop for antiques and take care of her family. Emma and her family was raised by the late Rafe D Kelley and her sister Alien Kelly later after her mother passed away. She worked for Raytheon for many years where she would retire as a supervisor. Emma was the oldest member and the oldest person in Saint Johns Missionary Baptist Church. She’s been a member since the beginning from 1944 to 2019 under the leadership of reverend Kelly from 1944 through 2000 she was a member of the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church florus club until she got ill. Her favorite choirs were the Kelly Choir #1, The Gospel Choir, The male Choir and the senior choir. Her favorite songs were “I’m going up yonder to be with my lord” and “Yes Jesus Loves Me.” She leaves to mourn her son Sylvester Kinney of Boston, 2 grandchildren Templar and Syle Kinney, 4 great grandchildren D Andre, Isaiah, Azmariah and Amarri. She also leaves behind a sister Rosalee Hodges and 2 brothers. She will be remembered as every ones favorite Aunt Emma to her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. And forever cherished in memory by her best friends Pollie Cooper and Emma Murray and all those that knew her and loved her as much as we all have.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday June 10, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the St John Missionary Baptist Church,   230 Warren St, Roxbury, MA 02119

Celebreation of life will start at 11:00 AM also from the church, Interment will follow to Oaklawn Cemetery, 427 Cummins Hwy, Boston, MA 02131
